Natural Solutions for Your Health While Traveling

How our RV family stays calm, regular, and healthy on the go

Travel is one of the greatest gifts we’ve given our family… but let’s be honest:

🚐 Long drive days
✈️ Flights and time changes
🚢 Cruises and motion sickness
🍕 All the “fun” food
🦠 A million new germs

…can do a number on your body.

Over the last few years — and especially after our 3-week Europe trip with five other RV families — we’ve really dialed in a system of natural solutions that help us feel our best while we’re on the move.

This blog is your peek inside what we actually use as a full-time traveling family.

1. Motion Sickness & Tummy Troubles on the Go

Whether it’s a winding mountain road, a rocky ferry ride, or a cruise day at sea, motion sickness can derail a trip fast. These are the things we reach for first:

Ginger Drops

Ginger is a classic for queasy tummies, and the Ginger Drops are perfect for:

  • Motion sickness in the car, on a train, or on a ship

  • That “uh oh, I don’t feel quite right” feeling

  • Kids who need something simple and tasty to suck on

How we use them:
We start before we hit the curvy roads or boat days. One drop as we’re heading out, and then another as needed.

Peppermint Beadlets & Peppermint Oil

Peppermint is one of my non-negotiables for travel.

  • Peppermint Beadlets = about ¼ drop of peppermint oil. You pop one in your mouth, let it burst, and it freshens your breath while settling your tummy.

  • Or you can use 1 drop of Peppermint oil under the tongue (for adults) for a stronger effect.

We use peppermint for:

  • Motion sickness

  • Midday energy slumps

  • That heavy, “I overdid it at the buffet again” feeling

DigestZen: The Belly Button Trick 🙌

If you remember nothing else from this section, remember this:

1 drop of DigestZen in the belly button can do WONDERS.

We’ve used DigestZen for:

  • Queasy bellies

  • General stomach aches

  • Cramps

  • Constipation or “I haven’t gone in a couple days…” issues

  • After eating something that didn’t agree with us

How we use it:

  • 1 drop of DigestZen oil right in the belly button, and gently rub it around the area.

  • You can also dilute it with a carrier oil and massage over the stomach.

TerraZyme: For “I Definitely Ate Something I Shouldn’t Have” 😬

Travel + new foods = your digestive system working overtime.

TerraZyme is a digestive enzyme that helps your body:

  • Break down fats, carbs, and proteins

  • Absorb what it actually needs

  • More efficiently eliminate the rest

We especially love TerraZyme when:

  • We’re eating heavier or richer foods than normal

  • We know a certain meal might not sit perfectly

  • We’re trying new foods in other countries

How we use it:
We take TerraZyme with meals, especially the big or questionable ones.

DigestZen Softgels

For those moments when your stomach is already upset, DigestZen Softgels are a simple, ready-to-go option.

We love them for:

  • Bloating

  • Indigestion

  • General “off” tummy days while traveling

I think of them as our “oh no, my stomach hates me” backup plan.

2. Immune Support While Traveling

You know how travel is:

  • Airports

  • Hotels

  • Cruise buffets

  • Escalators and handrails (cue my crazy-mom mode 😅)

We’ve seen a huge difference in our overall wellness by focusing on foundational support + simple daily immune habits.

Foundational Wellness

Our family has been on doTERRA’s foundational wellness supplements for almost two years now, and it has:

  • Improved my personal bloodwork

  • Helped all of us feel more resilient overall

When your body is consistently getting the micronutrients, antioxidants, healthy fats, and metabolic support it needs, everything else works better — including your immune system.

On Guard Softgels: Daily Support Around Crowds

Whenever we’re:

  • Traveling

  • On a cruise

  • At a conference or event

  • Around a lot of people (like our 3-week Europe trip with 5 other families)

…we each take 1 On Guard Softgel a day for extra immune support.

On Guard Hand Sanitizing Mist

I am 1000% that mom on the escalator saying,
“Don’t touch the handrail… okay, if you did, give me your hands!” 😂

Because let’s be real: we don’t always have access to soap and water on the go.

We keep On Guard Hand Sanitizing Mist in my purse or our day bag.

We use it after touching doors, rails, menus, Before eating, on planes, buses, and trains.

When you have clean hands there is a much better chance of staying well on the road.

3. Pain, Headaches & Recovery After Adventure Days

Long walking days, new beds, long flights or drives — your body feels travel.

Deep Blue Stick

Our go-to for aches and pains is the Deep Blue Stick. It’s:

  • Easy to apply

  • Not super messy

  • Amazing for:

    • Lower back pain after walking all day

    • Knee or hip discomfort

    • Shoulder tension from carrying bags

    • My daughter’s flat feet — she puts it on her arches

    • Head tension (we apply to the neck, temples, or shoulders, avoiding the eyes)

We love using Deep Blue as part of our “end of day reset”: stretching, hydration, and rubbing it on whatever is complaining the loudest.

Don’t Forget Hydration

It’s not a product, but it matters:

Staying hydrated is one of the simplest ways to fight headaches, support your immune system, and keep energy up while traveling.

We always bring:

  • Refillable water bottles

  • Electrolytes for hot days or long walks- we love doTERRA Recharge.

  • Lemon essential oil (for adults) to add to stainless or glass water bottles for flavor and occasional gentle cleansing support

4. Skin, Scrapes & “Oops” Moments

Kids + outdoors + travel = something always happens.

Correct-X: The Tiny Tube That Lives in My Purse

If you peeked in my bag, you’d always find:

  • Correct-X

  • A couple of Band-Aids

Correct-X is a natural ointment we’ve used on:

  • Deep cuts

  • Scrapes

  • Burns

  • Bug bites and stings

  • Dry, cracked skin

  • Even as a makeshift chapstick in a pinch

I am still amazed at how fast it helps skin look and feel better. It’s an absolute must-have in our travel kit.

It came in super handy when Emery got bit by something in Portugal, and her finger started to swell. We ran back to the airbnb, and then I put 3 drops of Lavendar in a capsule to slow the allergic reaction she was having. I also put it on topically. Within less then 30 minutes she was feeling so much better!

The essential oils in Correct X add up to over $200, and Correct X is $14!

5. Stress, Anxiety & “Are We There Yet?”

Travel days can be stressful. New places, tight schedules, long lines, kids who are off routine… all of it adds up.

Adaptiv Capsules: Our “Drive Day” Secret

One thing we have found incredibly helpful for stress and anxiety is Adaptiv Capsules.

Let me just say:

Before any big drive day, we’re all begging Rob to take Adaptiv.
We notice when he takes it and we definitely notice when he skips it. 😅

For us, Adaptiv helps with:

  • Overall calm

  • Less reactivity

  • A smoother emotional baseline on those long-travel days

Again, not a replacement for professional mental health care — but a beautiful tool in the toolbox for everyday stress support.

6. Our Must-Have Travel Essential Oils

These are the oils we always keep nearby and how we typically use them while traveling:

Lavender

  • Calming at bedtime

  • Minor skin irritations or sun-kissed skin

  • Occasional anxious feelings (we like it on wrists, back of neck, or in a travel diffuser)

Peppermint

  • Motion sickness

  • Head tension (diluted on temples/neck — avoiding eyes)

  • Midday energy boost

  • Cooling support on hot days

Copaiba

  • Everyday nervous system and mood support

  • Comfort for occasional aches and discomfort (taken internally or used topically with a carrier oil)

Deep Blue (oil blend)

  • Muscle fatigue after hiking

  • Sore shoulders/neck

  • Part of our after-adventure recovery

Frankincense

  • “When in doubt, Frank it out.”

  • We use it for skin, mood, focus, and general cellular support.

  • Great layered with Lavender or Copaiba.

Tea Tree (Melaleuca)

  • Skin blemishes

  • Nail and foot support (think: flip-flops + public showers)

  • Minor cuts and scrapes (alongside Correct-X)

On Guard

  • Immune support

  • Diffusing in tight spaces (hotel rooms, cabins, RV)

  • On the bottoms of feet (diluted) for kiddos

Lemon

  • Uplifting scent in the diffuser

  • Degreasing sticky messes

  • Occasional internal use (adults, in stainless/glass only) for gentle cleansing

DigestZen

  • Motion sickness

  • Tummy troubles (hello belly button trick!)

  • Any “my stomach feels off” moments

Breathe

  • Stuffiness

  • Before bed when congestion tries to hit

  • Pre-walk or pre-hike if someone feels a little tight in the chest

We also love Breathe in the shower (drops on the floor away from direct drain) for a mini “steam room” if there is a cough or croup.

7. Breathe Drops: For Those Nagging Coughs

The Breathe Respiratory Drops are tiny but mighty. In our house, these are especially loved by Rob — he clings to them when he gets one of those coughs that just won’t quit.

We’ve used Breathe Drops for:

  • Nagging, leftover coughs after being sick

  • That “out of breath after a hike or long staircase” feeling

  • General respiratory comfort on cold or damp days

If you live with asthma, COPD, or other respiratory conditions, always follow your doctor’s plan first and foremost. These drops are a supportive tool, not a replacement for prescribed medication or rescue inhalers — but plenty of people really like them for everyday respiratory comfort.

8. Gut Health on the Go: PB Assist (Tastes Like a Treat)

So much of your immune system lives in your gut, which is really important to remember while you’re:

  • Eating different foods

  • Changing time zones

  • Under more physical stress

We love PB Assist for on-the-go gut support.

For adults and kids, the version that tastes like a pixie stick is a crowd favorite — it’s fun to take and super easy to toss into your travel bag.

We like PB Assist for:

  • Supporting healthy digestion and regularity

  • Backing up the immune system from the inside out

  • Especially during longer trips, cruises, and big travel seasons
